FOCUS:

Current standards in scientific illustration applied to morphological and taxonomical research involve the use of computer programs and the digitalisation of drawings. This course provides the tools to perform perfect illustrations with computers. It is oriented to graduate students in Biology, Paleontology, and related careers who are interested in using digital techniques for scientific illustration, in particular to those developing research involving morphology, systematics, and taxonomy.

CONTENTS:

The theoretical part of the course focuses on the study of the concepts necessary to manage computer programs. In the practical part of the course, the introduced concepts will be applied to the resolution of exercises using computer programs. The course also involves the use of graphic tablets, digital pens, and the development of projects involving scientific drawing.

GOALS:

To learn modern techniques of digital drawing using computer programs for scientific illustration and image editing. The course provides both basic and advanced tools to develop drawing projects, create scientific plates and posters, and edit photographs for publication.

COMPUTER PROGRAMS USED:

Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Ligthroom CC.
